Nothing hurts more than being betrayed by a trusted friend. After 10 years of friendship, see how this relationship took a dramatic turn.
Recently, a 37-year-old Malaysian man fell victim to human trafficking after trusting a friend who tempted him with a “nice vacation in Thailand.”
Little did he know, the vacation he eagerly anticipated would become his worst nightmare.
M’sian man kidnapped in Thailand by his own friend
Law, the victim, mentioned that his friend reached out to on April after not being in contact for a while, which took him by surprise.
During a Facebook live video, Law recounted his arrival in Bangkok and detailed how he was deceived.
He offered to treat me to a meal and then extended an invitation to join him in Bangkok for a religious festival and vacation, assuring me that he would cover all the expenses.
Out of sheer excitement, Law did what most people would do—he accepted the invitation immediately, without questioning the lack of a return ticket to Malaysia.
What happened after?
On May 7, Law was prepared to leave for Bangkok with his friend. However, things took a drastic turn once he got into the car. After being offered a bottle of water, Law quickly lost consciousness.
After he regained consciousness, he realized that he was in Burma, revealing the true nature of the journey—one that was never intended to be a vacation.
That’s when Law realized he was trapped and being assaulted by five men. One from Malaysia and the rest from China. To survive, Law was given a single option: to pay RM50,000.
He was not the only one
Law found himself trapped and subjected to relentless beatings with sticks and metal bars, resulting in cuts on his neck and arm.
He wasn’t alone in his suffering; he also saw several other victims who were also held captive for similar reasons.
I met a Burmese soldier who spoke BM. He protected me for two weeks before representatives from the Malaysian Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) finally brought me home
A lesson to learn
Law safely returned to Kuala Lumpur on July 9. When he tried to contact his “friend” again, he discovered that the number was no longer in service.
Although Law did not reveal the details of his escape, he provided crucial information to the authorities to facilitate further action.
This story serves as a stark reminder to others: scams can be perpetrated not only by strangers but also by those you think you know and trust.
