Teh tarik, also known as pulled milk tea, is a local favorite among Malaysians thanks to its sweet, frothy texture that is perfect for both sunny and rainy weather.
However, no one can deny that it contains a high amount of sugar in it, where it can lead to preventable diseases such as diabetes.

Man drinks teh tarik 3 times a day
In a 1-minute video shared on TikTok by @kedidi_kakipalsu, it showed a man who had suffered from diabetes for over 30 years recounting how he got his right foot amputated.
The man, known as Azlan, said that when he was younger, he couldn’t get about his day without drinking at least three cups of teh tarik.
I was a fan of teh tarik, where I would have it in the morning, afternoon, and evening every day. I also used to drink a lot of carbonated drinks such as Coca-Cola.
“But for teh tarik/teh ais, I must always have it in my car at all times. If it ran out, I’d head somewhere and buy sugary drinks,” he said.

Aside from his excessive intake of teh tarik, Azlan added that he often ate meals irregularly, where he would have meals at the mamak with friends during the early hours of the morning.
Had right leg amputated
Due to his unhealthy lifestyle, Azlan said that he eventually suffered from diabetes, where he noticed that his wounds took way longer to heal.
“After the wound worsened and became severely infected, the doctor told me that I had no choice but to amputate my right foot, which I did.

The video, which has since garnered 1.5 million views, saw netizens weighing in on the issue.
One commented that the first rule in anyone’s diet is to totally abstain from sugar.

Another shared how her brother-in-law who, like Azlan, drank teh tarik all throughout the day and passed away at the age of 40.

Another said that the clip had reminded him about the dangers of drinking teh tarik excessively and purposed to reduce his intake.
