What started off as a simple house cleaning routine turned deadly after a young man passed away after getting stung by wasps.
What made the incident even more tragic was the fact that the victim was scheduled to marry the love of his life in a few weeks’ time.
Stung by wasps at home
According to a friend named Khairul Affendi Rahim, he told Berita Harian that the the victim, 29-year-old Abdul Hamid Mohd Taufek, had returned home after performing Zuhur prayers on Dec 30.
While waiting for a technician to come over and service an outdoor air conditioning unit, Abdul Hamid opened it up and got stung by several wasps.
“Not long after getting stung, he rushed to a neighbour’s house to inform them of what had happened.
“It is understood that he fainted a few minutes later and was taken to the Batu 14 Health Clinic for further treatment,” Khairul recounted.
Died after 30 mins of CPR
Khairul added that although emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed on Abdul Hamid for 30 minutes, it proved to be futile.
He said an inspection of Abdul Hamid’s home found a wasp nest inside the outdoor air conditioning compressor.
“We believe he was stung by the wasps hiding inside the compressor but we’re waiting for the post-mortem results to determine the cause of death.
“The victim also had a history of sinus problems and seafood allergies, which may have caused the wasp venom to spread more quickly in his body.”
Was supposed to marry in January
Khairul also told the Malay daily that Abdul Hamid was looking forward to tie the knot with his fiancée on Jan 23 and had made several preparations for the ceremony.
Another friend described Abdul Hamid as a devout man who was often involved in religious activities.
His death has since left many shocked and saddened to see a life being cut short so suddenly.
