A Malaysian man working in Singapore has shared a heartbreaking confession about ending a five-year affair with a married woman who constantly promised to divorce her husband but never did.
Posting anonymously on XUAN, the man said the relationship began during the MCO period, when he and the woman, who lived in Johor, started chatting on Facebook.
‘My husband refused to face reality’
Their playful online banter soon turned emotional, and the woman confided that she was separated and planning to leave her husband.
She told me it wasn’t that she didn’t want to divorce, but her husband refused to face reality,” he said.
He believed her and the relationship deepened over time. But after the lockdown ended and they started meeting in person, cracks began to show.
The woman grew increasingly possessive and controlling — insisting that he unfollow all female accounts on Instagram while refusing to do the same with men.
Never introduced him to her parents
Despite five years together, she never once introduced him to her parents or family.
“Her family didn’t even know I existed. We hardly ate together in public. Even when I had breakfast with my own family without telling her first, she’d get angry.”
Feeling emotionally drained and without a real place in her life, he tried several times to end the relationship.
Each time, she begged him to wait, promising she would “settle things soon.” But nothing ever changed.
Finally ended the relationship
The turning point came when he asked if she was worried about being caught having an affair.
“She said, ‘As long as I’m happy, nothing else matters.’ That’s when my heart completely broke.”
The man eventually ended the relationship, admitting it took him five years to learn a painful truth — that love alone cannot sustain a relationship built on secrecy and lies.
He ended his confession with a bittersweet message for his ex in Johor:
I hope you can one day sit down and enjoy a proper meal — instead of always sneaking around to eat.”
The story has since drawn widespread discussion online, with many praising the man for walking away from an emotionally exhausting relationship and finally finding closure.
