Firefighters are often called upon for a wide range of emergencies, from extinguishing fires to rescuing individuals trapped in dangerous situations.
But their duties sometimes extend beyond the typical scenarios, requiring them to handle delicate and unexpected tasks with precision and care.
M’sian man has his metal ring stuck on his genitals
In an unusual case today, firefighters in Ipoh were summoned to assist hospital staff in removing a metal ring that had become lodged on a man’s genitals.
The 37-year-old man had been rushed to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) after unsuccessful attempts to dislodge the ring on their own, reported Berita Harian.
The hospital staff quickly realised they needed specialised equipment to safely remove the ring and contacted the Ipoh Fire and Rescue Station.
The call for assistance came in at around 9:14 a.m., prompting a team of firefighters to head to the hospital’s Emergency Unit.
It was thick and took them about 15 minutes to remove it
Upon arrival, the firefighters assessed the situation and used tools designed for cutting through metal.
“The ring was particularly thick, so it took us about 15 minutes to safely remove it,” explained Fire and Rescue Chief Azman Hussin.
Two firefighters were deployed for the delicate operation, which required precision and caution to prevent injury.
The procedure was successfully completed by 10:12 a.m., and while the patient’s current condition was not disclosed, the situation was resolved without further complications.
