A man suffering from mental issues went off the deep end and fatally stabbed his own mother with a pair of scissors at an apartment at Relau, Penang yesterday (June 15).
To add on to the grisly scene, the man went on to call his older brother to confess to the crime before he was arrested by police, reported Sin Chew Daily.

According to the Chinese daily, the victim was identified as 67-year-old Cai Yating (transliteration), while the suspect was her 40-year-old son, who was the youngest child in the family.
In a statement by Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid, he said the victim’s eldest and second child tried calling her but to no avail.
At 5pm, they received the shocking news from the suspect who admitted that he had stabbed their mother with a pair of scissors, leading to her death.

The suspect’s brother then contacted the police, who rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect on the spot.
Had threatened family before
Razlam added that the victim would drop by the apartment three times a week, while on other days she would stay with her eldest child in Batu Maung.
The suspect had threatened to kill all his family members when they were staying together in Batu Maung. He previously received psychiatric treatment at Jalan Perak last year.
“We’re working to determine the motive behind the stabbing and the victim’s remains have been sent to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem,” he said.
Brought to court
As for the suspect, he was brought to the Balik Pulau courtroom today as police sought for a 7-day remand order to aid investigations, reported China Press.

The case is now being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
