A local man had a rather odd question for the judge when he was made to appear at the Muar Magistrate’s Court for charges of assaulting his girlfriend’s husband last month.
The accused was 43-year-old Mohd Rashimi Mahmood, a painter by profession and a father of three children, reported NST.
M’sian man accused of hitting GF’s husband
According to the charge sheet, Mohd Rashimi was accused of hurting his girlfriend’s husband in front of a house in Jalan Salleh, Parit Setongkat, at 6pm on Nov 27.
The case facts stated that on the day of the incident, the husband of Mohd Rashimi’s girlfriend, who was the victim, had gone to the house in an attempt to woo her back after being apart for three days.
However, things ended on a sour note when the victim began scolding his wife, causing Mohd Rashimi to intervene by punching the victim, resulting in injuries to his abdomen, arm and thigh.
The victim later received medical treatment at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for his injuries.
Mohd Rashimi was eventually charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and faces up to one year in prison or a fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
‘Will I get a shorter sentence?’
In court, Mohd Rashimi pleaded not guilty to the charge before magistrate Suzana Mokhtar and followed it up with this question:
If I say I was wrong, can my sentence be reduced?”
However, it’s not known whether the court granted his request for a shorter sentence.
Mohd Rashimi was granted bail of RM2,000 in one surety and the court set Jan 13 for the submission of documents.
He was also instructed to report to the nearest police station every month and not disturb the victim or prosecution witnesses until the case concluded.
Meanwhile, Mohd Rashimi was fined RM2,000 after he pleaded guilty to testing positive for drugs for a separate case.
Should he fail to pay the fine, he will have to serve five months in prison.
