Setting boundaries is something we all do online but what happens when someone refuses to respect them?
For one Malaysian lecturer, saying “no” wasn’t enough.
The woman he blocked went on to harass him for half a decade, even going as far as claiming they were married.
The disturbing ordeal came to light after a video surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), showing a heated scene at the IIUM Gombak library.
In the clip, the man is seen firmly asking a woman to leave after she allegedly interrupted him while he was working on an assignment.
A confrontation caught on camera
According to the lecturer, who is currently teaching at a private institution called Ahlan Academy, the woman in question, known as Abidatul, had been harassing him for years.
The incident in the video was just the latest episode in a long-running pattern of obsession and disruption.
The incident happened on 14 January 2025. This mentally unstable woman disturbed me at the library. The video shows me chasing her out because she was bothering me while I was doing my work,” he wrote in a post clarifying the situation.
“She suddenly appeared, pretending she wanted to ‘discuss’ something. But I’ve told her thousands of times that I’m not interested and that I won’t let her follow me on Instagram.”
It all began with an unfollow
The lecturer revealed that things started spiralling in April 2020 when he removed her from his Instagram followers. What seemed like a small, private decision quickly turned into a years-long nightmare.
She was always the first to view my Instagram stories and it made me really uncomfortable. Ever since I removed her, she’s been harassing me. It’s been five years now, soon to be six,” he said.

Obsession across platforms
What made things worse was the woman’s persistence.
Even after being blocked, she allegedly created dozens of fake accounts on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter just to keep contacting him. In a bizarre twist, she even began spreading false claims online that they were married.
To make matters worse, these claims weren’t isolated whispers, they were repeated across platforms, making it difficult for the victim to escape the narrative she was building.

Academy steps in to set the record straight
In response to the situation, Ahlan Academy released an official statement to put an end to the speculation.
They confirmed that there was never any romantic or personal relationship between the lecturer, Cikgu Zulhilmi, and Abidatul. The two had simply attended several university classes together in the past.
Despite the clarification, the harassment has continued.
Look at how many fake accounts she made. And that’s just a portion,” the lecturer added.
She really needs mental health treatment. I’m basically her second victim, she’s done this to someone before. And if nothing’s done, she’ll likely move on to someone else.”
