If there’s one thing Malaysians look forward to every Chinese New Year, it’s the Kuan Family’s iconic festive music videos.
Known for their catchy tunes and heartwarming vibes, the Kuan Family—Malaysian Internet Sensation Jestinna, Mskuan, Perry Kuan, Papa and Mama Kuan, never fail to get fans hyped for the CNY celebrations.
But this year, they’ve taken things up a notch, or should we say, flown miles away to Hong Kong for their first-ever overseas CNY music video shoot.

And they didn’t do it alone.
Joining the crew this year is none other than Hong Kong star Wong Cho Lam, whose special appearance is bound to bring a nostalgic HK drama vibe to the production.

From local charm to HK nostalgia
The bustling city isn’t just a visual treat but also a nostalgic touchpoint for fans of classic HK dramas.

“It’s a big step forward for us,” shared Perry Kuan in an exclusive behind-the-scenes chat. “This year, we wanted to do something different by taking our production overseas and showcasing our music video at the international stage.”
Wong Cho Lam’s cameo steals the show
Wong Cho Lam, the beloved Hong Kong actor and comedian, made a special cameo that’s sure to get everyone talking. Filmed at the nostalgic Hung Wan Café in Mong Kok, his hilarious antics and charm bring a classic HK touch to the MV, making it all the more entertaining.

8 iconic Hong Kong locations that made the MV shine
The Kuans didn’t just stick to one spot and filmed across eight stunning locations in Hong Kong, each offering its own distinct charm and character.
At the Central Mid-Levels Escalators, an iconic spot for Wong Kar Wai movies, the shoot began early in the morning with Mskuan dressed as a policewoman, reminiscent of those in classic HK dramas.

She shared the scene with Kuan Mama, creating a nostalgic moment that brought a cinematic feel to the MV.

“The policewoman character is definitely the most remarkable one for me in this shoot. Finally, I get to embody a character we’ve always watched in dramas,” said Mskuan.
Moving on to Central Market (one of Hong Kong’s oldest wet markets and an architectural landmark that has received a contemporary renovation), the family fully embraced a retro 90s disco theme.
Dressed in vibrant vintage outfits inspired by Hong Kong’s golden era, they performed a lively dance sequence for the song’s chorus.
The market’s mix of modern and old-school vibes made it the perfect location for this energetic scene.

The vintage theme continued on the streets of Hong Kong near Yuk Kin Fast Food, where the family danced against the backdrop of bustling city life.
The classic street setting, with its timeless charm, added an authentic Hong Kong flavor to the MV, perfectly complementing the festive vibes.

Over at Ladder Street, famous forThe World of Suzie Wong and many TV dramas, Jestinna Kuan channeled her inner lawyer. Dressed in a sharp legal outfit reminiscent of the characters seen in classic HK court dramas, she filmed her solo scenes on the iconic staircase, adding a sophisticated touch to the production.
“All the character styling was done by my beloved sister, and I love them all. But if I had to pick an iconic one, it would definitely be the lawyer,” Jestinna shared.

At Hung Wan Café, the nostalgia reached new heights with Wong Cho Lam making his special cameo.
Perry Kuan joined the scene dressed as a waiter in an old-school HK kopitiam, further enhancing the café’s authentic vibe.

The family then traveled to Lai Chi Kok Park, a setting often featured in period dramas like Gong Sum Gai. Dressed in traditional Chinese costumes, the Kuan family danced in a scene that felt like it was lifted straight out of a historical drama.

One of the MV’s standout moments was shot aboard the Aqua Luna, a traditional junk boat with its iconic red sails. As it cruised through Victoria Harbour, the Kuans performed against the stunning backdrop of Hong Kong’s skyline.

Finally, at the Avenue of Stars, the family took advantage of the perfect sunset to kick off a night shoot. With Hong Kong’s dazzling skyline as the backdrop, they filmed an exciting lion dance performance that captured the festive energy of Chinese New Year.
