Most people think the real drama starts after you get fired. But what if the real mess begins when you try to tell the truth about it?
That’s what happened to one Malaysian employee who dared to write the word “terminated” in his resignation letter.
Instead of silence, he got scolded loudly by his own HR.
The voice recording of that confrontation ended up on TikTok, and what was once a private HR matter turned into a public showdown exposing just how far some companies will go to control the narrative.
‘Why are you saying the company terminated you?’

It all started when TikTok user @gipsymagi uploaded an audio clip of a heated conversation between a female HR staff and a male employee.
In the clip, the HR staff can be heard raising her voice, clearly triggered by the employee’s use of the word “terminated” in his resignation letter.
Eh, I don’t understand your letter. What did you write? Why are you saying the company terminated you?” she questioned sharply.
“I’m asking you, are you resigning, or is the company terminating you?”
Instead of calmly handling the discussion, the HR staff escalated the situation, insisting that the employee was wrong to describe his departure that way.
She claimed that the company had extended his contract out of sympathy, framing it as a favour rather than an obligation.
The employee tried to explain himself, but the HR staff kept pushing back, firmly standing her ground and refusing to acknowledge the employee’s version of events.
What really happened behind the scenes?

To shed light on what led to this viral moment, the TikTok user shared a detailed timeline in the video caption.
According to the post, the conflict began on 10 April 2025, when the employee was informed by HR that he would be terminated and that 30 April would be his final working day.
Facing job insecurity, he immediately began searching for new employment and also requested an official termination letter from the company so he could apply for benefits under SOCSO’s Employment Insurance System (EIS).
However, instead of providing the requested letter, HR allegedly told him to write a resignation letter instead.
The TikTok user claimed that this is a tactic often used by some HR personnel to avoid being held accountable for dismissals.
The HR lady said he had to write a resignation letter. He refused and insisted on a termination letter, even when they warned it would damage his reputation,” the user explained.
“Eventually, HR agreed. But a couple of weeks later, he was given two choices: transfer to another department with a pay cut, or be let go. He chose termination.”
From termination to confusion
You’d think that would be the end of the story.
But roughly a week after that second meeting, HR called the employee in again, this time to offer another round of options. He could either extend his employment for one more week or end it as scheduled.
The unexpected back-and-forth left him confused. Wanting to be sure of his decision, the employee asked for some time to think.
On 29 April, he finally submitted his resignation letter but included one specific line: that he had been “terminated” by the company.
That single word brought him back into HR’s office for one last confrontation, which was recorded and posted online for everyone to hear.
HR said terminated, now says resigned?
In the viral audio, the HR staff seemed fixated on the idea that the employee was trying to twist the story.
But according to the TikTok user, it was HR who initially informed the employee that he was being let go, with no Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), no formal documentation, just verbal confirmation.
Now they’re mad because he wrote the truth? You fired him and still made him write his own resignation letter. Then you get angry when he tells it like it is?”
To make matters worse, the user claimed that HR later changed the narrative entirely.
In the comments section of the video, they alleged that the company had begun telling others the employee had already secured a new job, which is why he chose to resign a version that contradicts everything said before.

Public reacts to the HR meltdown
The video quickly became a talking point across social media. Many were outraged by the HR staff’s tone and behaviour, calling it unprofessional and emotionally manipulative.
Some netizens believed the HR staff reacted so defensively because she knew her actions were questionable.
