M’sian Homestay Owner Throws Out Guests’ Belongings For Checking Out Late

They checked-out at 2.40pm instead of 12pm.
If you’re a homestay owner, one of the things that would probably grind your gears would be guests who simply refuse to abide to the checkout time and take their sweet time in moving out.

A group of guests found themselves and their belongings being thrown out of a homestay in Alor Setar, Kedah, after they checked out more than two hours later than the stipulated checkout time of 12pm

Among the tossed belongings included shoes, slippers, and bags containing their clothes. The homestay owner even threw out the food that the guests bought as well.

According to the video caption, one of the guests admitted they were at fault for not abiding to the checkout time and said they would happily pay the homestay owner RM100-RM200 a day for it.

But don’t chase us out like dogs and throw out food too. Yesterday, after an event in Alor Setar, we rushed off to send some stuff to Perlis. We arrived (back in Alor Star) at 8am. We overslept and were late (for check-out), but only by one hour.

Homestay owner’s side of the story

Shortly after the incident caught much public attention, the children of the homestay owner released a lengthy statement on Facebook explaining their side of the story.

According to them, the guests were given until 1pm to check out with no additional fee as the next batch of guests were coming in at 3pm.

“My mum texted again at 1pm, reminding you about the check-out time but didn’t receive a reply from you. At 1.35pm, the cleaner arrived to clean the place up but waited until 2pm as one of you was still clad in a towel and none of you showed any intention of checking out.

“The cleaner then called my mum, who arrived at the homestay at around 2.25pm, where it was two and a half hours past the check-out time,” the post read.

Based on the video caption, the guests checked out at 2.40pm, leaving only 20 minutes for the place to be cleaned up.

While the homestay owner’s children admitted that their mother was wrong in throwing out the guests’ belongings, they urged the latter to respect her as a homestay owner.

“I have talked to her about this and advised her to call the police next time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we only want to clarify what happened.

“You’re free to deny any part of my explanation but I have the cleaner, my mum, WhatsApp and calls as proof.”
