Practicing food hygiene is very important as it not only maintain food quality, but prevents people from falling horribly sick too.
A kopitiam in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, is going viral for all the wrong reasons after a clip showed a hawker resorting to less than pleasant methods in preparing chicken feet for wan tan mee.
M’sian hawker uses pole to stir chicken feet
In a 26-second clip shared by a netizen named Chew Kwai Nam, it showed the hawker clad in white t-shirt and dark shorts transferring a pile of chicken feet to a metal pot with a strainer.
After doing so, the hawker then picks up a pole that’s usually attached to a paintbrush or mop and uses to stir the chicken feet inside the pot instead of using a ladle.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, the hawker doesn’t bother to clean the pole and proceeds to place it right on the concrete pavement which was blackened by years of unwashed grime and dirt.
Kopitiam issues apology
It didn’t take long for the clip to start making its rounds online, where it eventually caught the attention of the kopitiam where the incident took place.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the kopitiam revealed that the wan tan mee stall had closed down temporarily on Saturday (Oct 26) following public backlash.
Our team conducted a thorough review and took swift action. To maintain high standards of service, we have communicated with relevant parties, and the stall owner has agreed to pause operations.
“This is to allow us to reassess the quality of service and ensure it meets our customers’ expectations.”
The kopitiam also apologised for the incident and promised to give an update in due time.
