A Malaysian employee’s story about workplace boundaries has struck a chord online after they shared how they once used their company’s own policy against their boss.
The employee said they had previously asked to work from home as their six-year-old child was down with a fever.

However, the request was allegedly rejected by their boss, who cited company policy as the reason.
Asked to complete urgent work during holiday
According to mStar, the employee later found themselves in a different situation when their boss contacted them during a holiday.
This time, the boss allegedly asked the employee to complete an urgent task for a client.
The employee then decided to respond using the same reasoning that had once been used against him by telling the boss he was at home and that, based on company policy, he wasn’t allowed to work from home.
Netizens praise employee’s response
The post gained attention online, with many netizens saying the employee had every right to set boundaries between work and personal time.
Some also felt that company policies should not only be applied when it benefits the employer.
Others, however, pointed out that standing up to a boss may come with risks, especially if the workplace does not take such responses well.
The incident has since sparked discussion about workplace empathy, flexibility, and the importance of respecting employees’ time off, especially when family matters are involved.
