M’sian Grab Driver Grumbles Over Fetching Woman, Claims She Never Gets Tipped By Certain People

Grouchy.
If you’ve previously worked or are currently working as an e-hailing driver, it’s a fact that you can’t choose your passengers nor are you entitled to receiving tips unless the passenger is willing to do so.

A woman recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her less-than-pleasant experience with a Grab driver who not only showed a sour face throughout but also passed stereotypical remarks about a certain group of people when it came to tipping.

M’sian Grab driver grumbles over fetching woman & tipping

In the tweet posted by a woman named Mediha yesterday (Jan 22), she wrote that she had booked a Grab ride and just got into the car when she saw the driver sighing over the fact that she had to drive a long distance to get her.

Upon seeing the Grab driver’s unenthusiastic demeanor, Mediha wrote that she was ready to give a generous tip in order to make it up to her for her troubles.

However, before she could do so, the Grab driver complained incessantly during the entire ride about how she had to pick Mediha up and proceeded to remark about not being tipped:

At that point, all thoughts of tipping the Grab driver completely went out of the window as Mediha was shocked to hear the remark made by the latter.

OP recounts incident

Speaking to WeirdKaya, Mediha said despite the stereotypical remark made by the Grab driver, she didn’t call the latter out on it as it was uttered towards the end of the ride.

I didn’t call her out on her comment stereotyping ‘tudung people’. She said it as we pulled up to my destination and I guess my reaction time wasn’t as fast as I wish it were.

“However, I didn’t rate her badly nor did I tip her. I generally don’t give drivers low star ratings because I know how it can affect them. I’d rather not rate at all,” she said.

When asked whether she had notified Grab of the incident, Mediha said while Grab had reached out to her, she doesn’t plan on lodging a report, adding that sometime Grab drivers have their “off days” and she doesn’t wish to worsen it further.

WeirdKaya has reached out to Grab Malaysia for comment and we will update this article once we receive a response.
