Cafes are inherently noisy places as it’s the spot where people come together and have lively conversations with their friends or family over a meal.
However, this vibe is quickly changing to that of a library’s, with some claiming they’ve either been told off or stared at by customers who found the noise too much for their personal liking.
Was glared at while eating
A woman recently took to Threads to voice her frustration over the situation, where she wrote she’s unable to fully enjoy some alone time at her favourite cafe.
“It almost feels like a sin to sit at this cafe as out of the seven occupied tables, I’m the only one who’s eating, while the rest are those who ordered a single drink and are on their laptops.

“Whenever I make noise due to the utensils hitting the plate, I’d get glared at. It’s super frustrating as I often come to this cafe to eat since my breakup.”
The woman added that she’s no longer able to enjoy her comfort food as she’d feel super stressed out by the stares thrown her way and the eerily quiet atmosphere.
“In fact, it’s so quiet like a library that other customers would glance around to see whether it was appropriate for them to talk,” she quipped.

‘Talk je!’
In the comment section, a handful of netizens told the woman that she shouldn’t feel guilty for eating or having a conversation at a cafe as it was a designated place to do so.

Some also suggested that she take “revenge” against those who stared at her by either staring back at them or making more noise while eating and using the utensils.
