The LRT is a popular form of transportation that Malaysians take to get to places. While it’s generally considered a safe space, it’s not immune to occasional cases of people being harassed or photographed without their permission.
A young woman recently was the victim of unsolicited attention after she caught a man secretly taking photos of her while taking the LRT.
M’sian girl confronts man who took photos of her on LRT
Speaking to WeirdKaya in an exclusive interview, the woman named Amanda said the incident occurred on Wednesday (Dec 20) at around 7 am.
While taking a ride on the LRT from the Ampang station, she noticed a suspicious-looking man seated directly in front of her and quickly realised that he was taking photos of her without her consent.
“Through the reflection on the window, I was able to see that he was sending the pictures via WhatsApp to someone else.
“Without hesitation, I decided to stand up for myself and ask him whether he had indeed taken photos of me,” she said.
Denies taking photos of her
As expected, the man vehemently denied that he had taken pictures of Amanda when asked.
Despite this, Amanda said she remained calm and respectful towards the man, who hurriedly deleted the photo when she panned her phone camera towards his phone.
The man kept claiming that he had not taken a picture of Amanda and begged her to stop filming. However, she found out that he had also taken pictures of other commuters when he scrolled through his phone’s photo gallery to prove his innocence.
What happened after
After the confrontation, Amanda told WeirdKaya that she decided to get off at the next station and approach the station counter as there were no police officers at the LRT platform.
After she was asked some questions by an officer, Amanda said she unfortunately wasn’t able to lodge an official police report due to unforeseen circumstances.
Since I couldn’t file a police report, my only option was to expose him in order to prevent other women from falling victim.
“I hope that other women will find the courage to confront individuals like him and that the authorities will take action against such people,” she said.
