Football fans in Malaysia and across Asia can rejoice — the UEFA Champions League final will soon start at a much friendlier time.
Beginning with next year’s final in Budapest, UEFA has confirmed that the match will kick off at 12 midnight Malaysia time (6pm CET) instead of the previous 3am Malaysia time (9pm CET). This means fans here can finally enjoy the match without sacrificing an entire night’s sleep.
A better matchday experience
In a statement, UEFA said the adjustment was made to enhance the overall matchday experience for fans, players, and host cities.
Our aim is to make matchday a truly enjoyable experience for everyone involved, including families and children,” UEFA explained.
The earlier schedule also means better access to public transport after the game, allowing fans to travel home safely and conveniently. For host cities, it opens up opportunities for fans to continue celebrating, boosting the local economy.
Expanding global reach
UEFA also highlighted that the new time slot aligns with more accessible broadcasting windows, helping the final reach a wider global TV and digital audience.
By appealing to younger viewers and overseas fans — particularly those in Asia — the governing body hopes to increase fan engagement and strengthen the Champions League’s position as the most-watched club football event in the world.
