Dads always give their everything, hustling hard to give their kids the best, even when things are tight.
Recently, a Malaysian student shared a heartwarming gesture of his father buying an RM8 shoe from a secondhand store solely to join him at the graduation ceremony, instantly captures the hearts of many netizens.
“My heart is startled”
Through his TikTok account, @jobs_abraham, Ayob Ibrahim shares that his father bought RM8 shoes to wear to his graduation ceremony.
Knowing how important the dress code was, Ayob’s dad just purchased a pair of secondhand black shoes.
In the post, Ayob mentioned that when he was returning from having lunch, his father showed him the newly bought shoes.
“If these with these shoes, can get I into the graduation hall? I bought them for RM8 earlier. Maybe I can wear these shoes.” his father said
After the post went viral, Ayob made an explanation video.
He elaborated that his father had bought that shoes from a second-hand shop specifically for Ayob’s graduation scheduled later this month on the 30th of November.
In a conversation with WeirdKaya, Ayob said he couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon learning about what his father did.
“I felt emotional and sad when I reflected on my father’s actions to purchase second-hand shoes for only RM8, just to attend my convocation ceremony,” he told WeirdKaya.
Ayob, a student at UPM, is all set to graduate on November 30 with a Bachelor of Human Development Science.
Ayob receives lots of help offers from netizens
After witnessing Ayob’s story, many netizens were deeply moved, and many have even extended offers to assist him in purchasing new shoes for his father.
“Assalamualaikum, can you DM me? I’d like to buy your shoes for your father,”
“Is it okay if I want to help buy a new one for your father?”
“May all matters be made easy. Let me know if you need a helping hand.”
Ayob declined the offer from netizens
He extended gratitude to Malaysians for their warm responses and offers of help, however he gracefully declined the offers from netizens.
“You can pray for his health; may he be blessed with good health, be blessed with good fortune, and be given all the best. That’s enough for us. Thank you for the comments and a lot of experience sharing,” he said in the follow-up video.
Ayob declined it because he mentioned he could afford to purchase a new pair of shoes for his father, intending to convey that he shared the story not for sympathy but to share a meaningful experience.
Happy Birthday Abah
A few days later, Ayob posted an update, revealing that he had already purchased new shoes for his father, which happened to double as a coincidental birthday present for him.
”Alhamdulillah, I bought new shoes yesterday (12/11/23) and also gifted them as a birthday present. Happy Birthday, Dad,” he captioned the post.
In the screenshot shared by Ayob, his father thanked him for buying the clothes and shoes.
The emotional father expressed, “I feel moved. In the past, my late mother always bought clothes and shoes for me. Now, you are buying it for me.”
Netizens showered Ayob and his father with wishes
“May your father stay healthy always.”
