M’sian Driving Teacher Caught Not Wearing Seatbelt While Coaching Student In Kedah

The irony.
Driving instructors are expected to not only teach new drivers how to be safe on the road, but also to set an example themselves.

Unfortunately, not all instructors follow this cardinal rule, just like one who recently got caught breaking the law in Kedah.

Found not wearing seatbelt

In a Facebook post by the Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ), it wrote that officers were carrying out routine monitoring along the North–South Expressway on Monday (Mar 16).

However, a car which belonged to a driving school caught their attention as it was travelling at Kilometre 24.8 and they decided to follow it.

When they pulled the car over, officers saw that a learner driver was behind the wheel, with an instructor seated in the front passenger seat.

Upon closer inspection, they discovered that the instructor wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and promptly issued him a fine for the violation.

What is the penalty?

According to JPJ’s official website, any driver or passenger caught not wearing a seatbelt are liable to a fine not more than RM2,000, or jail time not exceeding six months upon their first conviction.

For subsequent convictions, offenders face a fine not more than RM4,000, jail time not over 12 months, or both.

If you don’t want to spend time in jail, be sure to follow traffic laws at all times!
