Medical certificates are meant for people who are unwell, but one doctor was left stunned after a mother allegedly tried to obtain one for her child who had simply overslept.
Child was not sick
As reported by mStar, the doctor shared that a mother had brought her 13 year old child to the clinic despite the child not experiencing any health problems.
According to the doctor, the mother openly admitted that her child was not sick and did not require any medication.
She reportedly only wanted an MC because her child had woken up late and missed school.
When the doctor asked why the child had not attended school, the mother allegedly replied with a grin that the child had woken up late that morning.
Asked for two days of MC
What surprised the doctor even more was that the mother reportedly requested a two day MC.
The doctor said the request made it seem as though medical certificates could simply be ordered according to a patient’s preference.
“She even asked for two days of MC. It was as though she could just order it,” the doctor said.
The doctor said he was especially disappointed because the child was only 13 years old and was already being exposed to such behaviour.
“If the mother frequently takes MCs, she will have to face the consequences herself,” he wrote.
Request rejected
The doctor eventually refused to issue the MC, adding the mother might not return to the clinic following the rejection.
“Imagine having to deal with someone like this early in the morning. Does she not have even a little sense of shame? I was the one who felt embarrassed,” he wrote.
