Today I had mixed rice pro max. When I paid and saw RM22.30, I was a little shocked,” he wrote.

He also joked that mixed rice can no longer be called economy rice now and asked others about the most expensive mixed rice they had ever eaten.

Speaking to WeirdKaya, Der Ting revealed that the shop is located near Seri Petaling.

Netizens share their thoughts

The post quickly drew comments from netizens, with many sharing their own views on mixed rice prices.

One netizen said that mixed rice would only be cheap if customers took more vegetables and tofu, adding that taking bigger portions would naturally cost more.

Another commented that customers should observe what the person in front takes, then choose similar dishes to estimate the price.

Some also pointed out that petai and fish could have made the meal more expensive.

Because you took petai and fish,” one netizen wrote.

Another netizen said mixed rice stalls are no longer cheap, claiming that prices can feel like they are “calculated double”.

The post has since led to a wider discussion about the rising cost of food, especially for meals that were once seen as budget-friendly.

For many Malaysians, mixed rice remains a common lunch option, but Der Ting’s RM22.30 meal has made some question whether it can still be considered “economy rice”.
