Two individuals were tragically thrown 15 meters away from an ‘Octopus ride’ at a fairground outside the Likas Sports Complex in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, where they sustained severe injuries.
The man and woman, visibly bloodied from their wounds, were immediately rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Victims in critical condition
Sin Chew Daily reported that the male victim is in critical condition and was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), while the female victim sustained head injuries.
The accident occurred around 8pm yesterday (Mar 6), where videos showing the victims lying on the ground went viral online.
Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) head, Deputy Superintendent Ordine Gilu said an emergency call was made at 8:58pm and a team of firefighters was quickly dispatched to the scene.
The ‘Octopus Ride’ was also suspended for further use when the team arrived at the scene.
“The 29-year-old female victim suffered head injuries and was sent to to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.
No police report filed
Meanwhile, a secretary from the Kota Kinabalu MP’s office said that no police reports were filed by the victims or the fairground’s management.
“According to preliminary investigations, the victims were flung 15 meters away from the ride, resulting in injuries to their eyes, head, and legs,” he said.
Police are still investigating whether mechanical failure was to be blamed for the accident.
