A Malaysian wedding recently went viral after guests arrived bearing unconventional gifts, including brooms, mops, dustpans, and other household items, leaving the newlyweds both amused and bewildered.
In a video uploaded by a Facebook user under the name “Wa Fans,” a series of guests can be seen presenting the practical gifts one by one, eliciting hearty laughter from the bride and groom.
Filled with household items
The guests are seen stepping forward one by one, proudly presenting their gifts to everyone before finally setting them down in front of the newlyweds.
Soon, the pile of gifts grows, filled with everyday household items, while the newlyweds laugh happily as their friends continue the playful gesture. At one point, the bride was even moved to tears.
The humorous tone peaked when a guest gifted an iron chain and a padlock, suggesting the bride “lock up” the groom to keep him from running away.
To add to the hilarity, the padlock key was ceremoniously handed to the bride.
Netizens’ reaction
While the scene brought joy to the couple and their attendees, online opinions were sharply divided.
Some netizens criticized the act as inappropriate, suggesting that jokes should be more situationally sensitive.
“Nonsense… just give money so they can add to their honeymoon fund.”
“It’s like mocking… it’s not polite to do that.”
On the other hand, many supported the lighthearted gesture, noting that the bride, groom, and their family seemed to enjoy the playful atmosphere.
“Oh, come on… just let them and their family be happy… there’s nothing wrong with it.”
“It may look cheap… but all these items are very useful for a couple who will be moving into their own home. Behind these gifts, there are likely more that they share among friends without showing them publicly. Perhaps there were also cash gifts given discreetly via transfer, who knows. Just wish them the best.”
