A pair of parents in Butterworth, Penang were charged at the Sessions Court for allegedly selling their OKU daughter for sexual purposes yesterday (Mar 21).
The victim’s stepfather and mother, who both work as massage therapists, were accused of selling their daughter at a house in Bukit Mertajam between January and Feb 14 for her to sexually exploited.
The charges were framed under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Act 670), along with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
Should they be found guilty, the couple faces life in prison or a jail sentence no more than five years and caning.
Pleaded not guilty
However, both suspects pleaded not guilty to the charge and asked for a joint trial to be held.
Sessions Judge Nor Aini Yusof granted bail at RM15,000 with one surety each.
The couple was also ordered to surrender their passports to the court and report themselves to the nearest police station at the start of every month until the case comes to an end, where it was set for re-mention on Apr 20.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy public prosecutor Qatrin Nada Harun while the couple was unrepresented.
