M’sian Convict Admits To Taking 100 Meth Pills Monthly For 30 Years

"There were times I would swallow up to 10 pills one shot."
Drug addiction is a crippling habit that strips one of their senses and humanity when it occurs over a long period of time. As such, many find it hard to break free from its grip despite their best efforts.

A convict made a startling admission about how deep his drug addiction was, to the point where he swallowed a handful of methamphetamine pills in one go to fuel his addiction for decades.

According to a report by NST, the convict’s name was 58-year-old Jahar (not his real name), who worked as a construction worker but fell into a life of crime after getting addicted to meth at the age of 25.

Jahar revealed the extent of his drug addiction, saying that he took around 100 meth pills monthly over the course of 30 years.

I would take the pills every single day, and there were times I would swallow up to 10 pills one shot. I was even willing to spend RM1,000 on the pills.

“I was jailed five times for drug-related offenses. I want to change. I have tried to quit the habit but I failed,” he said when interviewed at the Machang Moral Rehabilitation Centre.

Given a second chance

Thankfully, Jahar was given another shot at turning his life around after he and 68 other convicts were released under the Licensed Prisoner Release programme.

He added that he looks forward to staying clean when his sentence ends in December and warned youths to stay away from drugs lest their lives be destroyed by it.

Speaking to the English daily, Machang Prisons deputy superintendent Mohd Sazeli Mohd Noor said those released under the programme were drug offenders aged 21 to 58.

He added that 1 returned to their families, 24 were placed in transit homes, while the remaining offenders were placed into the care of employers so that they can earn a living.

However, he said they must abide to conditions set by the Prisons Department until the completion of their sentences within one to 10 months.
