Balancing family needs and personal aspirations can feel like a constant tug-of-war.

Whether it’s upgrading to a dream car or saving for rainy days, everyone approaches financial decisions differently.

But what happens when someone tells you how to spend your money—especially on social media?

That’s exactly what happened when a TikTok video by an influencer named Muiz went viral.

His bold claim that men earning RM4,000 or more are being unfair to their families if they don’t buy a Honda car has sparked heated debates online, touching on everything from family priorities to financial realities.

‘Your salary isn’t just for you’

In his video, Muiz, who is also a Honda sales advisor, argued that income is a blessing meant to be shared with loved ones, not hoarded.

His message was clear: spending wisely on your family should be a top priority.

“Imagine, Allah gives you RM10,000 a month. That’s not just for you. You have kids and a wife. That RM10,000 needs to go to them too,” he said.

“But instead, you just save it in the bank. Your kids don’t get to see the world, and your wife doesn’t enjoy the fruits of your labor.”

He emphasised that using an old, unreliable car could affect the family’s quality of life, suggesting that upgrading to a more comfortable vehicle isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity.

“I’m not saying you need to buy a car that costs RM2,000 a month. But if your salary is RM5,000, spending RM1,000 on a car is reasonable. You’d still have RM4,000 left—surely, you can make that work.”

Connecting income to responsibility

Muiz also linked financial blessings to responsibilities.

He suggested that a higher salary is often given to meet the needs of dependents, such as a stay-at-home spouse or young children.

“There’s likely a reason for your blessings—maybe because you have two kids or a wife who doesn’t work. But when Allah blesses you, make sure those blessings reach your wife and children,” he added.

Why Honda?

As a Honda sales advisor, Muiz naturally recommended Honda vehicles, praising their reliability and high resale value.

For him, investing in a trusted brand not only ensures a better lifestyle for the family but also offers long-term financial benefits.

Internet’s reaction: Not buying it

This connection, however, drew skepticism from viewers, who questioned whether his advice was more about promoting sales than genuine financial wisdom.

While Muiz’s video resonated with some, the majority of viewers weren’t convinced. Social media users were quick to share their opinions, many of which pushed back against his statements.

Many noted that a salary of RM4,000 to RM5,000 isn’t substantial, especially in urban areas, and highlighted that local brands like Proton and Perodua offer reliable and affordable alternatives that better suit the diverse financial priorities of different families.
