Sometimes, a good meal can go from “sedap gila” to “never mind, I lost my appetite” real quick.
For one Malaysian man, what started as a proud food recommendation to his friends allegedly turned into an unpleasant experience after he claimed to have found a large fly in his ayam gepuk.
The incident was first shared on Threads, where he posted a photo of what appeared to be a fly stuck to his rice.
Claimed he found a fly in his ayam gepuk
In his post, the man jokingly wrote that he had eaten “fly gepuk”, referring to the alleged fly found in his meal.

The post quickly caught the attention of netizens, with many reacting with a mix of horror, jokes, and concern over food hygiene.
Some netizens joked that it was “extra protein”, while others said the matter should not be taken lightly, especially if the insect had allegedly been in the food while it was being served.
“It looked like it had been deep fried”
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Brendon shared that he had invited his friends to an ayam gepuk shop in Bangi, which he personally considered one of the best places to get the dish.
He said each of them ordered a regular set of nasi ayam gepuk.
About 15 minutes into the meal, he was just about to scoop a handful of rice into his mouth when he noticed what looked like a huge fly in the food.
“I realised there was a huge fly. It looked like it had been deep fried or something,” he told WeirdKaya.
He added that he was shocked and immediately walked to the counter with his plate, while still holding the rice in his hand.
Staff allegedly gave dismissive response
According to him, the staff member was initially passive and dismissive when he raised the issue.

He claimed that after he asked again, the staff replied:
“So what do you want me to do?”
Brendon said he was baffled by the response, especially since he had previously worked in the food and beverage industry.
“As someone who once worked in the F&B sector, I was honestly speechless with that response,” he said.
He added that his friends later joked that he should have replied, “Do you want me to become LalatMan?”
Chef later apologised and offered new meal
Brendon told WeirdKaya that the chef later came out to apologise and offered to replace his meal with a new set of ayam gepuk.
However, by then, he and his friends had already lost their appetite.
He claimed some of them even felt like vomiting after seeing the fly in the food.
When asked how much of the meal he had eaten before noticing it, he said he had already eaten around 70% of the food.
“I only noticed it when there was a bit left. That’s when I saw the extra protein,” he joked.
Hopes restaurant owners train staff better
Despite the unpleasant experience, Brendon said he does not have much to clarify, except to remind others to be more careful when eating ayam gepuk next time.
He also hoped restaurant owners would train their staff to handle customer complaints better, especially when the issue involves food hygiene.
“I genuinely hope restaurant owners train their staff with the knowledge and understanding to provide appropriate service, especially when facing issues with food hygiene,” he said.
Brendon also shared that the ayam gepuk shop is located in Seksyen 15, Bangi.
While his claims have not been independently verified, the incident has sparked discussion online about food cleanliness and how eateries should respond when customers raise hygiene concerns.
