M’sian Works For Sister With RM1.8K Salary For 6 Years Without Raise, Even Stopped Contributing To His EPF

His sister even claimed that he was jealous of her.
Working for family might sound ideal to some — flexible hours, better communication, and a more understanding boss. But for one man, reality proved to be far from the dream.

A Malaysian netizen recently take to Thread to share his experience of working under his sister’s company for six years, where he was paid a stagnant monthly salary of RM1,800 throughout his employment.

Fail to pay EPF

Matters took a worse turn this year when his sister allegedly failed to contribute to employees’ Employees Provident Fund (EPF), despite deducting the amount from their payslips.

“When I asked her why she didn’t contribute to EPF but still deducted the amount from my payslip, she gave all sorts of excuses,” he wrote.

She even said that employees have to contribute on their own and employers are not allowed to.”

Feeling that his labour rights had been violated, the man decided to lodge a complaint with the authorities.

Claimed that he was jealous of her

However, his actions reportedly angered his sister, who then involved their mother in the dispute.

She told my mother that I was jealous of her business. But is it really my fault for wanting to protect my rights?” he wrote.

The man added that he eventually resigned from the company, but not without further accusations.

His sister allegedly claimed he had incited his colleagues to report her to the authorities as well — something he firmly denied, stating that his colleagues were simply aware of their rights under employment law.

“She told my mother that my friends lodged the report because I told them to. It really hurts to be slandered like this,” he shared.

“Biggest mistake of my life”

Reflecting on his experience, the man said that if he could turn back time, he would never have worked for family.

Working for my sister left me with unforgettable scars. It was the biggest mistake of my life,” he said.

His post quickly garnered support online, with many netizens encouraging him to report the incident formally and move forward.

“This is what happens when you work with siblings… hmm. If you can avoid it, then avoid it. When problems arise, that’s when it gets hard.”

“That’s how it is. What else can I say? Go find another job and mind your own business. Strangers will appreciate you more than your sister or your mother. Trust me.”
