The target was a trendy café, which has been a local favorite since its opening just a few months ago.
Thanks to an alert customer, the café avoided a sneaky financial pitfall.
The café’s owner shared how a vigilant customer, while paying via an e-wallet, noticed something odd.
The name that appeared on the payment prompt wasn’t the café’s.
Upon closer inspection, they discovered that the café’s QR code had been secretly replaced with a fraudulent one, designed to divert payments to an unknown individual’s account.
The owner said: “Such people probably have a lot of TNG stickers on them. Wherever they go, they probably take the opportunity to stick one.”
Scam or prank?
This raised questions: Was it an amateurish scam attempt, or was someone being set up?
According to China Press, the café owner is pondering the motive behind this act.
Considering how easily someone could trace the QR code back to an individual, it suggests the possibility of a setup.
