A RM3 crispy chicken burger sounds like a pretty good deal, but one Malaysian was left disappointed after opening his burger and seeing what appeared to be only half a piece of chicken inside.
Threads user Aieman recently shared photos comparing the burger he received with the promotional poster displayed at the stall.
Looked very different from the poster
The poster showed a generous piece of crispy fried chicken filling up almost the entire burger, complete with lettuce and sauce.
But when Aieman opened the actual burger, the filling looked noticeably different.
Instead of the thick piece of fried chicken pictured in the advertisement, his burger appeared to contain a much smaller piece that looked almost like half a portion, alongside cheese, sauce and a small amount of vegetables.
The difference was noticeable enough that some netizens even wondered whether the chicken had literally been cut in half.
One commenter jokingly asked whether the seller had divided the chicken into two portions, while another quipped that the “other half” must have gone somewhere else.
Aieman joined in on the joke, replying that the other half had been “kidnapped”.
‘Not complaining, just disappointed because of the picture’
While several netizens pointed out that the burger only cost RM3, Aieman clarified that his disappointment was not entirely about the price.
“Not complaining, just disappointed because of the picture,” he replied.
When another person questioned why he had such high expectations for a RM3 burger, he simply responded:
“Because of the picture.”
The thread has since garnered more than 571,000 views.
He believes each burger used half a chicken fillet
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Aieman said he bought the burger at around 8pm on Aug 17.
He explained that the promotional picture was one of the reasons he decided to give the burger a try.
According to him, he had also seen other sellers offering burgers at a similar price, but their actual burgers looked much closer to what was advertised.
As for the unusually small chicken portion, Aieman said he believed the chicken had already been cut in half before being placed into each burger.
He added that it appeared to be chicken fillet as he could still taste the chicken meat, though the piece itself was “too small and thin”.
As for the overall taste, Aieman said the bun tasted plain and seemed to be a cheaper variety.
He could mostly taste the sauce and cheese, while the chicken was barely noticeable.
He jokingly described the chicken as having “sunk” among the other ingredients, adding that he finished the burger anyway since he had already bought it.
Netizens say the picture set expectations too high
Reactions were divided.
Some felt the burger was still reasonable considering its RM3 price tag, although even a few of them admitted that the chicken portion looked particularly small.
Others argued that the bigger issue was how different the actual burger looked compared to the advertisement.
One commenter said the poster should have shown something closer to what customers would actually receive instead of featuring such a thick piece of crispy chicken.
Another said that although RM3 was cheap, they still would not have bought it if they had known beforehand that the filling would look like that.
Some even compared the burger to those commonly sold at school canteens.
