M’sian Bride Trusted The Baker To Deliver Her Dream Cake, But It Looked Nothing Like What She Ordered

All she wanted was a beautiful wedding cake.
A Malaysian bride took to social media to share how her wedding cake turned out very differently from what she had requested, despite giving the baker full creative freedom within her RM500 budget.

She described herself as someone who rarely makes demanding requests when ordering anything, whether it is makeup, nails, or even cakes.

For her wedding, she wanted a simple but elegant design. The only requirements were a burgundy colour, a crown on top, some glitter, and a rose.

She told the baker that if any part of the design did not fit the RM500 budget, the baker was free to adjust or remove some details. The only thing she cared about was that the cake still looked beautiful and burgundy.

The baker, who is known locally for her work, agreed and assured her that she would try her best.

But when the bride saw the cake, she immediately knew something was off.

Cake looked “greyish,” piping was messy, and texture was very dry

According to the bride, the finished product did not resemble what she discussed with the baker.

She claimed that:

  • The colour looked more grey than burgundy
  • The piping and patterns appeared messy and uneven
  • The glitter was scattered in a way that made it look rushed
  • The cake was very dry and crumbly, to the point it could barely hold its shape

She questioned why she was being charged RM500 for what she felt was a clear mistake.

Baker responded and apologised

The baker later replied to the feedback with a long message.

She apologised for the disappointment and thanked the bride for being honest. She also said the reference photos had moulded fondant and complicated patterns that were not possible within a RM500 budget.

The baker added that she had tried to produce something simpler since the bride allowed her creative flexibility. Still, she admitted that the final execution fell short.

The bride, however, felt the apology was not heartfelt.

She added that it would have helped if the baker had informed her earlier that the cake did not turn out well, especially before she brought it onto the wedding stage.

Gets full refund

Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, the bride revealed that she initially requested only a partial refund.

However, the baker decided to provide a full refund.

The bride acknowledged that her order was last minute and appreciated the baker’s willingness to take it on. She also said she forgives the baker, as humans make mistakes, but hopes the baker will be more transparent in the future about what she can and cannot deliver.

She stressed that the intention of her post was not to ruin the business.

She said the baker has produced many good cakes before and her design was something very new in Malaysia. She hopes that people will not boycott the baker based on one mistake.

The bride ended by reminding customers to be careful when ordering and for business owners to avoid taking advantage of clients simply because the budget is lower.

She said she only wanted to raise awareness and hopes that vendors will communicate honestly, especially for important events like weddings.
