M’sian Boss Lets Staff Take 30-Min Nap & Gives 25 Days Annual Leave, Productivity Jumps By 124%

More naps, more leave, more focus. Where do we apply? 👀
A Malaysian boss has gone viral on Threads after sharing how he redesigned his company’s working culture including letting staff take a 30-minute power nap anytime in the day and offering a generous 25 days of annual leave.

He said these changes, alongside other progressive policies, have boosted performance, helped retain talent, and even saved the company thousands of ringgit.

Employees at his company now enjoy 1.5 hours of rest daily:

  • 1 hour for lunch
  • 30 minutes of flexible “Power Nap” time

The nap time is flexible, meaning staff can decide when to take it — before lunch, after lunch, or later in the day.

He explained that the idea came from wanting to ensure fairness for all employees, so everyone gets the same chance to pause and recharge.

What I noticed is that performance actually increased. Staff are more focused because they’re well-rested, and they don’t feel like they’re racing against time during lunch,” he wrote.

Why 25 days of annual leave

The boss also revealed that his company gives 25 days of annual leave which is far more than the average Malaysian company.

He said the policy was inspired by overseas companies that commonly provide 30 days AL. However, since Malaysia already has many public holidays, he adjusted it to 25.

People say it’s a lot, but I don’t think so. If you pro-rate, it’s just 2 days a month. In a month, you work around 18 days, and with 2 days off, it’s still a good ratio,” he explained.

He also actively encourages staff to take a full week off at once, instead of short breaks.

“Go for a holiday with your family. If you travel on weekdays, it’s less crowded, and you come back in a better mood. For me, weekends are just for light rest at home.”

A modern workplace

The nap time and extended leave are part of a broader workplace culture shift inspired by his stints in Finland, Sweden, the US, and even the Malaysian civil service.

Other initiatives include:

  • WFH/WFO option
  • Minimal Carbon Trail Policy
  • Entertainment Day (ED)

Impressive results

According to him, the results speak for themselves:

  • Company overheads shrank from RM24,000 to RM10,000 a month.
  • Staff performance jumped by 124% compared to the previous year.
  • Zero resignations — none of his staff quit, even after receiving higher salary offers elsewhere.

With strong talent retention, he said the company is now preparing to expand by hiring more staff.

To employers, he urged a mindset shift:

Your staff are adults, not babies. If you want advice on modern working environments, I can help tailor a system for you.”

And to potential hires, he offered a blunt reminder:

“If you need to be pressured just to work, don’t apply. What matters is that by the deadline, the status says Accomplished’. Want leave or a power nap? Just apply through the system.”
