A group of firefighters in Kota Bahru were called to help lay to rest a man who was morbidly obese and died at home yesterday (Dec 15).
According to Harian Metro, the victim was identified as 44-year-old Sheikh Mohd Ali Omar, who weighed a shocking 420kg.

Speaking to the Malay daily, Sheikh Mohd’s sister, Hanoraziah Hassan, said her brother got stuck inside the toilet earlier in the morning and firefighters from the Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) were called to the scene to rescue him.
However, his condition deteriorated and he passed away in the afternoon.
Hanorazia revealed that her brother did not have a health certificate—a crucial document for burial arrangements—as he had not visited a clinic in a long time due to mobility issues.

I don’t know how to manage his remains as it was just the two of us living together. I’m wheelchair-bound, and although he could take care of himself before, he became weaker over the past five days.

Shortly after Hanorazia made a plea for help in burying Sheikh Mohd, JBPM assistant director for operations Mohd Wildan Azhari told Harian Metro that the department was ready to respond to her request.
As such, JBPM turned up Sheikh Mohd’s home along with a five-tonne truck which was equipped with a hydraulic excavator to transport his body to the burial site.

A total of 20 firefighters and 100 villagers worked together to move Sheikh Mohd’s body from the house before it was lowered into the grave using a homemade trolley at 11.20pm.
