Most of the time, we would openly share our results whenever we achieve exemplary grades or look for the nearest hole to hide if we were to fail badly.
A student who recently sat for SPM gave Malaysians a shock of their lives after he proudly declared how thankful he was for failing several subjects — a fact that most won’t find comfortable shouting from the rooftops.
M’sian boasts about flunking 6 SPM subjects
In a TikTok video shared by a certain user, it showed his full SPM results, where it revealed that he had taken a total of eight subjects,
But here’s the shocker: out of the eight subjects, he failed six of them and didn’t bother to turn up to take the remaining two subjects.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, he didn’t seem too ashamed of his results and proudly wrote the following caption:
Alhamdulilah I’m thankful for what I got.”
To put into context, this means that the TikToker will not be issued his SPM certificate after having failed so many subjects, which will make it hard for him to secure better paying jobs in the future.
Misplaced priorities?
Although the TikToker has since made his account private, a screenshot of his results soon found its way to X (formerly Twitter), sparking a wave of concern among netizens for the future of Malaysia’s education.
‘It’s not this student isn’t smart, but simply lazy. He will one day become a failed SPM ‘idol’ and later on a wealthy founder/influencer on TikTok. Our future generation is finished.’
‘He’s thankful that he’s stupid. It’s rare to see people being proud of their stupidity.’
‘If you failed and didn’t turn up for the exam, there’s nothing to be thankful for. You’re too lazy to study but then complain about how hard it is to find a job. Sigh, I don’t understand this.’
