What’s the worst case of blatant workplace exploitation you’ve ever seen? It’s probably still not as bad as this babysitter who was made to do maid-level house chores for minimum pay!
A recent post on Threads by a Malaysian nanny has once again highlighted the harsh reality faced by many domestic workers who feel exploited by their employers.
The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, shared that she has been working as a nanny for nearly six months, caring for three young children, including a baby, for a monthly salary of RM1,900.

Caring for three kids, including twins with developmental delays
I work as a nanny for a wealthy family. They have a pair of twin boys, three years old, and a baby around four months old,” she wrote.
She added that the twins, despite being close to four years old, still struggle with speech and rarely make eye contact.
What makes it harder is that they’re quite aggressive too,” she added.
The nanny works six days a week, from 9am to 8pm, caring for all three children.
“Do you think it’s worth it?” she asked.
Nanny also expected to clean the family’s messy home
Her responsibilities don’t stop at childcare. She claimed she is regularly expected to clean and tidy the house, especially when the mess becomes overwhelming.
The mother is a housewife but she rarely cleans. The kitchen is always messy, pots left in the sink with hardened stains,” she said.
While the family hires a cleaner, they only come once a week on Tuesdays — leaving the nanny to handle the rest of the cleaning on other days.
Sometimes I don’t feel like a nanny. I feel like a maid,” she wrote.
“It really affects my mental health. I’m not complaining — I genuinely want to know if it’s normal to feel this way. Is all this even worth it?”
