Malaysia’s men’s badminton team will head into the 2026 Thomas Cup as a potential dark horse, according to professional singles player Lee Zii Jia.
According to Berita RTM, Lee said the squad has a chance to do well, but stressed that he does not want to place overly high expectations on the team.
Instead, he said the focus is on giving their best in the tournament.
Lee also said every player in the squad carries an important role, regardless of where they are placed in the line-up.
He is expected to feature as Malaysia’s third singles player, and said any point contributed from that position could make a big difference to the team’s overall campaign.
At the same time, he said he believes every member of the squad plays an equally important part.
Malaysia’s squad departed for Denmark last night for a training camp ahead of the Thomas Cup, which is scheduled to take place from Apr 24 to May 3.
Lee added that selection into the national squad, especially for the main singles positions, is never easy and reflects the high level of ability within the team.
He said the players will work as hard as possible to ensure Malaysia can put up a strong challenge in the prestigious tournament.
