Malaysia has recorded its first Covid-19 related death for 2025 according to the Health Ministry (MOH).
MOH said the fatality took place during Epidemiological Week 24 (June 8–15).
The individual had serious comorbidities, namely heart disease and diabetes, and had not received the second booster vaccine.”

Drastic drop in Covid-19 deaths compared to 2024
According to The Star, the ministry noted that this marks a significant decline compared to the 57 deaths recorded in 2024.
“The last Covid-19 related death was reported on May 26, 2024. This reflects the effectiveness of current control measures.”
During the same week, six Covid-19 patients with existing comorbidities were admitted to intensive care units (ICU).
All cases were given close medical attention and have since been discharged from the ICU. Four patients were allowed to return home, while two were transferred to normal wards.”

As of now, Malaysia has recorded a total of 21,738 Covid-19 cases.
However, Week 24 saw a sharp spike in infections, with 3,379 new cases reported, a 68% increase compared to the 2,011 cases logged the previous week.
“Despite the rise, the situation remains under control,” the ministry assured.
