According to the 2024 Expat Insider survey, Malaysia has been ranked as the 22nd best country for expats to live in.

This ranking is a significant achievement, placing Malaysia 8 spots ahead of our neighbour, Singapore, which holds the 30th position.

Factors Contributing to the Ranking

The survey covered a wide range of expats, from retirees and self-employed individuals seeking job opportunities abroad, to corporate workers on international assignments.

A total of 12,543 expats from 175 nationalities, living in 174 countries or territories worldwide, participated in the survey.

Several factors contributed to Malaysia’s impressive ranking, including quality of life, expat essentials, working abroad, ease of settling in, personal finances, and general happiness.

These elements have made Malaysia an attractive option for those looking to live and work overseas.

Who Topped the List?

Panama claimed the top spot in the ranking, followed by Mexico in second place, and Indonesia in third.

On the other end of the spectrum, the worst-ranked countries for expats are Kuwait at 53rd, Türkiye at 52nd, and Finland at 51st.
