MALACCA – A group of 11 motorcyclists were arrested by police for reckless driving while riding with the Palestinian flag on Wednesday (May 19), reported Harian Metro.
The group was said to be ‘convoying’ on Jalan Telok Mas as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinians who are currently under attack by Israel.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Afzanizar Ahmad said a netizen lodged a report against the motorcyclists at about 8 pm, which was around the time the video went viral on social media.
He said investigations into the 23-second and 30-second videos found that the motorcyclists not only put themselves in jeopardy, but other road users as well.
“Following that, a total of 11 individuals were called to the Kandang Police Station to give their statement before being arrested.
“All the detainees were aged between 17 and 30 years old. However, three have been released on police bail,” said Afzanizar in a statement yesterday(May 20).
According to Harian Metro, eight riders were remanded for two days from Wednesday (May 19) to Thursday (May 20) to assist investigations.
The case was investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Regulation 10 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021).
Afzanizar also advised parents to monitor their children’s activities during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
