A close call: Motorcyclist nearly plunges into large sinkhole in Sabah

The road has since been sealed off.

KOTA KINABALU – A food delivery rider was able to cheat Death after CCTV footage showed him stopping in time and being mere inches away from a massive sinkhole.

In the video, vehicles could be seen carefully swerving away from the sinkhole which emerged at Jalan Telik Likas and driving into the opposite lane.

The rider then appears from the left lane and noticed the gaping hole right before him, causing him to pump the brakes and come to a screeching halt before he tumbled sideways.

Thankfully, he did not suffer any injuries and was seen getting back onto his motorcycle and riding off.

Sabah Public Works Department (PWD) Director Ir Ali Ahmad Hamid said that it is actively taking steps to see the road being repaired.

“We’ve also instructed the concession company Globinaco to review the situation at the scene.

“This issue has also been brought up to the Sabah Sewerage Services Department as it is falls under their jurisdiction,” he said when contacted by Harian Metro.
