While the beach is typically a haven of peace where families can enjoy picnics and soak in the natural beauty, it seems the situation at Pantai Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, has taken a different turn.
Amenities like chairs and tables are meant to enhance visitors’ comfort, but recently, a TikTok video surfaced showing that these public conveniences are being exploited for profit.
M’sians shocked by RM20 Charge to watch the sunset at Sabah beach
A TikTok video recently surfaced, showing someone setting prices for the use of tables, with costs ranging from RM15 to RM20—depending on whether you want to “table” your concerns about the charges.

Known for its breathtaking sunset views, this spot is now also known for its unexpected charges.
“No comment. Want to see the sunset, right? Have to make some sacrifices,” the video’s caption reads, giving visitors something to “chew over” before they “fork” out the cash.

Interestingly, despite the availability of these amenities, many beachgoers opt to sit on the sand instead of paying the fees, leaving the tables mostly unoccupied even on busy days.
The video has sparked a strong reaction online, with many netizens expressing their surprise and dismay over the charges.
One wrote, “We’ll just sit on the sand.”

Another chimed in with, “the price is outrageous. Can we eat the table?”, expressing disbelief over the cost.

Adding to the conversation, one user commented, “I’d rather sit on the floor”, while another questioned, “Do we really have to pay just to enjoy God’s natural beauty?”
