In Taman Sentosa, Bukit Baru, Malacca, a prolonged sewage problem has been a daily torment for a resident named Maria. This issue has transformed her everyday life into a nauseating experience, causing her to reach out for aid.

The unending sewage saga
Every day for the past 18 years, Maria said she had to bear the brunt of her neighbour’s sewage water overflowing into the monsoon drain right in front of her house.
She told WeirdKaya that the stench at around 6.45am to 7.15am were particularly intolerable, where the stench would permeate her home and make it almost impossible to enjoy a meal or have a peaceful rest.

Desperate calls for intervention
According to Maria, the problem continued to persist despite numerous complaints to local bodies like MPHTJ, Indah Water, past Chief Ministers of Malacca, and even state and national representatives.
It seems like their pleas have fallen on deaf ears, leaving her and her wellbeing in a deplorable state.

“I’m an asthma patient and my condition has been exacerbated by the foul scent. As such, I have now turned to nebulisers to cope.
“On top of that, my friends and relatives have become reluctant to visit me, with some even driving away upon getting a whiff of the air,” she lamented.
Maria added that she previously confronted the neighbour over the sewage issue but was ignored, where the neighbour claimed that it was “domestic water” despite overwhelming evidence.
When asked if other residents have also lodged complaints about the issue, Maria said she has tried to address the issue with them but to no avail.
“This is because the neighbour living on the right (of my house) doesn’t want to get involved due to family ties to the neighbour responsible for the sewage issue,” she explained.
