The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has called on the public to act responsibly and refrain from circulating any images or videos related to the fatal stabbing incident at a secondary school in Bandar Utama.
In a statement released today (Oct 15), it extended its condolences to the family of the 16-year-old female student who was killed in the tragic case involving a 14-year-old schoolmate.
“Delete any content if you’ve shared it”
MCMC reminded Malaysians not to upload, forward or share any content — including photos or videos — that shows the victim, other students, or the scene of the incident.
Those who have already posted such material online are urged to remove it immediately.
The commission warned that sharing graphic or sensitive content violates the privacy and dignity of the victim’s family and could also interfere with the ongoing police investigation led by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
MCMC further cautioned that legal action can be taken against anyone found distributing such content under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which covers improper use of network facilities.
The statement serves as a stern reminder amid growing concern over viral circulation of photos and videos linked to the school stabbing, which has shocked Malaysians nationwide.
