Angry that his love for his domestic helper went unrequited, a Singaporean man resorted to violence by threatening to end her life with a knife.
He later pleaded guilty to one count of criminal intimidation in court yesterday (June 16) and was jailed 40 days.
Married SG man confesses love to maid but gets rejected
CNA reported that the accused, Muhammad Khairulnaim Rosli, first crossed paths with the helper when his wife hired her to work for the family on Sept 10, 2023.
Three months later, Khairulnaim realised he had fallen in love with the helper and confessed his feelings to her.

However, the maid was greatly disturbed by the confession and blocked Khairulnaim on social media after telling him she wasn’t interested in mid-December.
When Khairulnaim told his wife about his romantic feelings for the maid, she asked for a divorce on Jan 1, 2024.
Attempted to get number of maid’s husband
On Jan 12, 2024, Khairulnaim got hold of the maid’s handphone and went through her WhatsApp chat history with her husband.

Before he could take a photo of the husband’s number, the maid managed to snatch her phone away and followed Khairulnaim into the storeroom, where she asked why he had taken her phone but accidentally pushed the storeroom door with force in the process.
In response, Khairulnaim asked the maid why she was angry and kicked the door three times.
When he spoke to his wife on the phone, Khairulnaim ranted that the maid didn’t feed his two children rice.
Threatens to kill maid for ‘destroying his life’
After taking a nap, Khairulnaim woke up feeling angry over his life as he prepared for work that evening.
According to the prosecution, he “felt that the victim had destroyed his life and he felt that he could do the same by telling the victim’s husband that the victim had a boyfriend in Pakistan.”

After taking urgent leave from work, Khairulnaim took a 16cm knife from the kitchen and raised it slightly above hip level, where he told the maid he wanted to kill her while pointing the blade pointed at her.
Out of her personal safety, the maid fled from the house and police were alerted after a passerby saw her crying, leading to Khairulnaim’s arrest.
Jailed for 40 days
In court, Khairulnaim pleaded guilty to criminal intimidation, where he could have been jailed up to 20 years.

He was eventually sentenced to 40 days in jail after the court took into account several mitigating factors, such as the fact that he was a first-time offender, the threat was not prolonged, and how the victim was unharmed.
