Some people bring back souvenirs, others bring back… 30 packets of Hokkien mee.
A man, who has been living overseas for the past 10 years and is currently based in Malaysia, wasn’t about to leave Singapore without his favourite comfort food.
So, he decided to go all out—buying, vacuum-sealing, and freezing 30 packets of Hokkien mee from 618 Hokkien Mee in Yishun before driving them back to Kuala Lumpur.
Not buying for friends, just himself
In a Facebook post on Hokkien Mee Hunting, the man shared pictures of his ambitious stash neatly stacked in plastic containers and vacuum-sealed bags.
When the stall uncle saw the massive order, he asked if the food was for his friends. But the man simply replied:
“Nope, just me.”

How he kept the noodles fresh
Naturally, some people were curious about how he transported 30 packets of Hokkien mee across the border without it going bad.

A Facebook user asked about his method, and he explained that he let the food cool to room temperature first before vacuum-sealing it himself, ensuring that all the air was squeezed out.
After that, he froze the packets before bringing them across the land border.

When others asked about customs restrictions, he reassured them that it wasn’t an issue since he simply drove across to KL.
Netizens were equally amused and impressed, with some questioning if the noodles would still taste good after being frozen.
One person joked that the dish might just end up as “soggy mee”, while others shared that they’ve done the same with wanton mee and fishball noodles.
