A clip showing a young man secretly taking the shoe belonging to a woman and taking a sniff at it has recently made rounds on social media.
Fortunately, the incident caught the attention of the police, who acted swiftly and eventually arrested the suspect.
Took a sniff of shoe
In the clip widely shared on Threads, it showed the suspect walking along the corridor of an apartment located in Seksyen 7, Shah Alam before coming to a stop in front of one of the units.
After glancing around to make sure no one else was present, the suspect bends down and slips his hand through the gap of the metal grille door to take a shoe placed outside.
He then takes a good sniff of the shoe before calmly placing it back to its original position.
Arrested for stalking
Thankfully, the suspect’s shoe-sniffing reign of terror came to an end following his arrest by police at around 8.30pm yesterday (July 13), reported NST.
In a statement by Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah, he said the suspect, a public university student in his 20s, had been harassing and stalking a female university mate since April.
Unable to endure the relentless stalking, the victim lodged a police report and police managed to arrest the suspect by acting on information provided to them.
Checks on the suspect’s background revealed he had no prior criminal record and initial urine screening showed he tested negative for drugs.
He was remanded for a day to assist investigations under Section 507A of the Penal Code for repeated stalking, which carries a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Police also urged those with information on the case to contact investigating officer, Inspector Sabryna Taha at 014-5130450.
