In this day and age, scammers are getting more and more creative in honing their tactics to cheat individuals or businesses of their money.
A man was recently caught on tape scamming a cheesecake shop located in Johor of RM94 by using a fake Touch n’ Go payment receipt to skip out on payment.

Man scams cheesecake shop of RM94 with fake TnG receipt
According to CCTV footage posted on Moody Cow Café’s Facebook page, which has since been deleted, it showed a young man clad in a black t-shirt patronising the shop on Wednesday (Apr 12).
When it came for him to pay, he was seen trying to pull off some moves that suggested that he was scanning the QR code to make a payment of RM94.

Strangely enough, he didn’t turn on the camera function when “scanning” the QR code and even typed on the screen to show that he was keying in the password and amount.
Owner gives man 48 hours to pay money back
The man’s deceit was later uncovered when the employee didn’t receive the RM94 after an hour, prompting him to contact the head office and asked the technical team to take a look at the CCTV footage.
To their horror, they realised that the man had used a fake TnG receipt to make the payment, where he was seen altering the receipt’s details.

Owner of Moody Cow Café Mr Wu (transliteration) told Sin Chew Daily that as soon as he caught wind of the incident, he posted an announcement on Facebook demanding that the man return the money within 48 hours.
“I’ve instructed my staff to make sure payment has been processed before letting the customer go and use other platforms if the payment fails to go through.
“Customers will also be required to leave their phone number behind and will be be refunded if they are found to have made double payments,” he said.
Man returns RM94 the next day
Yesterday, the café posted an update on the case, writing that the man had turned up and returned the RM94 which he had scammed.

In addition, it wrote that the man offered a sincere apology and transferred RM100 via TnG.
“With the case officially coming to a close, we have decided to give him a chance and hope that he will change his ways.”
It seems that this isn’t a new scam tactic, where a man used this method back in 2021:
