PONTIAN – A man suffered deep cuts to his right arm after he was repeatedly slashed with a machete by two assailants while patronising a restaurant at Bandar Benut yesterday afternoon (Feb 14).
In a video believed to be the shop’s CCTV footage, the man was scrolling his phone before two men emerged and began slashing away with a machete.
Pontian District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib said a report was lodged over the incident at 3.20 pm and police are now hunting down the suspects, reported The Star.
“The 40-year-old victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment due to severe wounds on his right hand,” he said.
“Witnesses also saw the suspects flee in a white Toyota Alphard with the car plate number JTS 6818.
He added that Initial investigations revealed that the car was registered under a fake IC and that the CCTV footage will be used as evidence.
The case will be investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing voluntary hurt, which comes with a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping.
