As a multiracial country with Muslims making up to 60% of the total population, Malaysia is also a ‘melting pot’ where people from various backgrounds and religions respect each other and live harmoniously.

During the fasting month, non-Muslims are often reluctant to eat in front of their Muslim friends to avoid offending them. Aside from that, some non-Muslims have also been accused of failing to fast due to their physical appearance.

A viral Tiktok video shared by @nick_sohide showed his non-Muslim friend putting his Identification Card (IC) on the table while having a meal yesterday (April 28), leaving netizens amused over how he handled the situation.

Nick and his friend were hanging out at a Subway restaurant after finishing some errands. When the meal was served, his friend expressed how he “couldn’t resist his hunger” and started wolfing down his sandwich with a terrified face.

“He even put his IC on the table to prove that he’s a non-Muslim!”

“I told him that it was fine to eat (in front of me) and that people will understand.”

Netizens swarmed the comment section to discuss the incident, where some likened his friend’s reaction to that of one sitting for the SPM examination, while others praised him for showing respect to Muslims who were fasting.

One netizen also wrote that she resonated with Nick’s friend as many often accused her of skipping out on fasting because she looks like a Malay.

The 7-second video has garnered more than 800K views and over 64.1k reactions on TikTok at the time of writing.
