Spiders are inherently scary to many, leading to some resorting to whatever method possible to keep the creepy-crawlies far away from them.
A Nepali man vacationing in Bali, Indonesia, wanted to rid himself of a spider in a villa and tried to scare it away with fire, but it instead led to a huge disaster.

Burning paper leads to huge fire
The Bali Times reported that the tourist, Gaorap Rana, saw a spider in the bathroom of the villa on October 5 and felt uneasy over it.
According to Badung Police spokesperson Ipda Ni Nyoman Yuni Eltari, he said Rana attempted to drive the spider away by burning a piece of paper before leaving the bathroom to go to the work room.
However, he failed to take into account the strong winds at the time. As a result, the winds swept the burning paper to the roof, which was made from alang-alang – also known as cogon grass, blady grass, or kunai grass.

This then triggered a massive fire that quickly spread across the villa.
Villa destroyed
Thankfully, Rana escaped from the burning villa but the villa and its contents weren’t so fortunate, with police estimating losses to be around Rp2 billion (approx. RM455,000).
Despite the devastation, no injuries were reported.
